Culinary distinction

Gyldendal invited me to join a design competition for Denmark’s best selling book of all time – apart from the Bible.

My approach was to make the title design iconic and the interior classic and kitchen pragmatic.

The interior was redesigned from running columns to keep recipes on one spread max.

To achieve that goal, I introduced variable width columns, separated headlines and ingredients. The result was a dramatically improved usability from previous editions.

I discovered to my surprise, that my iconic approach had its historicity intact: The original cook book from 1880 had a cutlery icon on the spine.
